Rainbow Investigations has a well-earned identity in the marketplace as a truly effective service at getting to the bottom of scams.  Of course, “scams”, or planned fraud to consumers, are generally the responsibility of police departments and a few selected government enforcement agencies.

However, fraud still tends to be on the lower end of priority for police departments.  Media, and the police still find “traumatic” crime, or crime involving physical violence, to be the “sexy” investigation, while fraud tends to not get people excited, unless one of the investigative TV programs uncovers a sophisticated scam with a famous victim.

Low penalties under the statute law, and the degree of complexity of some of the frauds sometimes make the situation not economically worthwhile to pursue.  This is especially true of frauds where individuals have lost only a few thousand dollars or less. 

Obviously, Rainbow Investigations, as a private investigation firm, does not have the power to go in and “shut down the fraud” – although there have sure been times we wished we had that power!

Most of our work in fraud has been to be a volunteer advocate, and provide clear information, through our popular “The Investigative News” feature, so consumers can make better choices on avoiding the scams.

We like to focus on the kinds of frauds that nobody in the enforcement world pays any attention to – heath fraud scams, business opportunity scams, small time renovators, traveling scams, etc.   Over the years, we believe we have saved consumers millions of dollars with our explicit information on the scams.

We have provided some investigative information to various enforcement agencies – some of the agencies have been receptive to us; some have not been.  Media have constantly called us since 2001, and have used as either as a quiet source or as an expert opinion on what is going on in the scam world.

So what can Rainbow Investigations do for you if you are a victim of a scam? 

We can, and have sued parties causing the scam, to try to recover damages of the victim.  While sometimes collecting the judgment is difficult, at least the victim has some closure by having the judgment registered on the fraud artist.

But probably our most effective mechanism continues to be our ability to publicize the scam through whatever it takes, and this reduces the market of the scam. 

Sometimes, but not always, some of the “players” or the so-called “hired guns” needed to facilitate a scam, upon reading about the scam on our web page, back out.  We are referring to advertising publications and ad agencies; call centers, and fulfillment places (that ship out the product, etc.).
