North American Governments Cooperate on Diet Fraud

Here is the latest release from the Canadian, Mexico and U.S. government cooperative regarding what they are doing about weight loss scams.

We admire the U.S. Federal Trade Commission for largely driving this initiative, and we like the fact that they are also talking with the media and trying to educate these people on not accepting clear cut bogus diet ads.

Of course, the report does include some rather modest actions by our Canadian compliance and enforcement people. While we still are of the opinion that in Canada authorities lack the fortitude, style of business, organizational structure and commitment to do much more than be on the periphery on these issues. But at least there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel!
