Ciren12, Supra Svelt Drops, Liposvelt and other Montreal Diet Scams...
As readers to Rainbow Investigations know, oh so well, Montreal remains the undisputed diet fraud capital of North America. No other place even comes close.
Rainbow Investigations has become the one organization that has continually exposed the Montreal diet scams. Of course this remains a volunteer hobby, and we have to balance our time with our own business, which is growing. As well, Ron Reinhold, who has been described as Calgary's busiest man, is involved in two other businesses, and at least one of them has a major merchant services dispute.
Bottom line is we are abit late in filing this report, but readers have been keeping us informed on what is happening. Here is the latest on the diet fraud scene coming from Montreal:
Ciren12 - This scam continues to go full blast throughout Canada. Full page advertisements continue everywhere in the Sun newspaper chain. As well, ads have been reported in flyers of the Shop and Save chain. This continues through a shared office complex in north Toronto which is directed by a fulfillment location in Terrebonne, Quebec.
As we have reported many times, there is no connection to McGill University with this promotion, the product is not approved, nor is there any evidence the ingredients will cause weight loss. The involved fulfillment center out of Terrebonne, Quebec just happens to also distribute adult videos.
Nordic Soybean - This is a minor product from a major diet fraud organization which is involved with Supra Svelt which distributes throughout the U.S. In Canada they call themselves Stockholm Capital Laboratories. The U.S. operations call themselves the Paris Slimming Institute (see Supra Svelt Drops). This product rents out a mailbox in eastern Ontario (Moose Creek). We have had reports of direct mailouts throughout Ontario.
Supra Svelt Drops - this Montreal based operation continues full blast throughout the U.S. Yet we are getting numerous reports throughout the U.S. of some possible changes in this business. Numerous consumers have reported that the 30 day period before the cheque is cashed now appears to be extended. As well, refunds seem to not be coming. In the past a fulfillment location just south of Traverse, Michigan have been the U.S. focal point. But now consumers are reporting cheques going directly to Montreal (to a well known Canadian bank). If we could get the days to have more than 24 hours, we may be able to do some research and report what has changed here.
Cola Svelte - this is another product, probably from the same fraud organization, which we have had reported throughout the U.S.
Papaya Plus - this Montreal based scam continues to be Canada's longest current running scam. U.S. operations continue through a Chicago based mailbox. In Canada, ads have usually been through a mailbox in Cornwall, although other ads have shown up directly in Montreal. The most recent ads have been in the Shop and Save flyer distributed with Canadian newspapers on May 7, 2006.
Le Marc de Raisins - this one leads to a nouthwest suburb of Montreal, and has a U.S. base of operations on Long Island. We have had recent reports of direct mailouts, mainly on the U.S. seaboard.
Liposvelt - this is probably one of the hotter diet frauds out there now. This one comes out of a mailbox in Worchester, Mass. While initially the direct mailouts were from the east, now we have been receiving complaints throughout the U.S. with a surprising number from Texas of all places. The complaints here have concerned no product being received, no refunds, and of course, no weight loss.
While we haven't had time to decipher exactly where this one is coming from, it certainly has all the parameters of the typical Montreal based fraud.
So this is where the Montreal based diet fraud scene is at currently.
Of course, the obvious question is what, or when or will Canada ever choose to do anything about this? So far we have no substantive indication of any changes. There was some lip service provided by authorities in Canada during the fall of 2005 about diet scams, but as we predicted at the time, this lip service has not gone anywhere in terms of action especially in Montreal.
In Canada, a new Conservative government is now in place and some of the government departments have changed senior bureaucrats. We have some overview type correspondence of our concerns with some of these new bureaucrats, but these discussions remain very broad, and we do not know if we will see any real change anytime soon.
In the meantime, Rainbow Investigations, Dr. Terry Polevoy, and all our great readers will do what we can to at least expose these frauds. Readers - keep these emails coming, try not to call us, and don't be concerned if we take a couple days to return the messages!
