Bio-Mince - Another Quebec Based Diet Scam
Canadian newspaper readers were again treated to another Quebec-based diet scam on Saturday April 6th, 2002. The coupon booklet “Shop and Save” was inserted in major Canadian daily newspapers on this date, with a full page advertisement for a product called “Bio-Mince”.
The coupon booklet is a product of Valassis International, located at 5935 Airport Road, Suite 710, Mississauga, Ontario. The phone number for this advertising agency is 1-905-677-0499 (in case you want to complain directly to the agency for taking these outrageous ads).
This particular ad makes the claim that 70 lbs can be lost in 40 days, without any change in dietary intake. In fact it even gives a testimonial of someone who ate all kinds of fatty foods, yet still lost the desired weight.
Nowhere in the ad are there any descriptions of the ingredients, other than the standard “Bio-Mince is composed completely of all natural ingredients”.
The address in the ad, 3539 St. Charles Blvd., Suite 521, Kirkland, QC H9H SB9 is in fact another Mailbox, Etc. location, as almost all these Quebec promotions are. There is no phone number, not even an 800 number to a call centre.
This particular promotion was previously advertised in the Valassis “Shop and Save” back in 2000. To see the ad from 2000, click on the following go to Dr. Polevoy's www.dietfraud.com site.
As we have said on a number of occasions, in Canada right now, it is a free market for diet products, and a great business opportunity for fraud artists.
What an absolute disgrace for the people of Canada!
