Consumer laws in Alberta are administered by Service Alberta.
Unfortunately a growing population with a worker shortage is exactly the recipe for fraud, and Alberta clearly has consumer fraud.
Many times the issues simply are unlicensed people practicing a trade, or a service to which they are not qualified. But when they is such a shortage of qualified people available, these fraud artists end up getting work when they shouldn’t.
The first step to preventing this fraud is to see if this business requires workers to be licensed, and if so, check to see if the business is in fact licensed (preferably before engaging the service!!)

Of course, just being licensed does not mean quality service!.
If you have had poor service to which cannot be resolved, the next step should be to check for a city business license, and perform a corporate search on the legal name of the business. Then you should call Service Alberta.
